The Department has a special care
Neonatal Unit and a Paediatric ward. The two Consultants and two house
surgeons supported by a team of well-trained nursing staff provide round
the clock services for the new born babies. The Neonatal Unit has been
progressively upgraded from level I to level II.
Facilities and Equipment
Level I Care
All new born babies without any risk factors are examined daily by paediatricians and minor ailments are treated in postnatal ward.
Level II Care
All babies with high risk are attended at time of delivery in the O.T and thereafter care provided in the Neonatal Unit. In the last few months, the Unit has successfully carried out two exchange transfusions and discharged many very low birth weight (VLBW) babies i.e. babies with birth weight less than 1.5 Kg with good weight gain. IPPI
The Department has been actively involved in executing the Intensive Pulse Polio Programme organized every six weeks. KNMH is in Type D category and employs 81 field level workers and 9 supervisors for the six-day programme. The Paediatric Ward
The six bedded Paediatric Ward is equipped with facilities for almost all routine procedures including nebulization. The addition of a syringe pump to the existing equipment has enabled better management of critically ill babies. Referral of newborn from other Hospitals referred to this Unit for special care is also on the increase |
